Physicochemical Properties: Lithium oxide (Li?O) is a white powder or hard-shell solid, an ionic compound. Its relative density is 2.013, melting point is 1567°C, boiling point is 2600°C, it begins to sublimate above 1000°C, it is hygroscopic, soluble in water, hygroscopic and corrosive. It readily absorbs carbon dioxide and water from the air to form strongly alkaline lithium hydroxide (LiOH); at high temperatures, it can corrode glass and some metals. Lithium oxide can be reduced to elemental lithium by metals such as silicon and aluminum, and can also react with acids to form lithium salts. Lithium oxide is a hazardous chemical, marked with "corrosive".

Lithium oxide is widely used in lithium batteries, glass ceramics, lithium chemicals, and the nuclear industry.
